About our Project

Cognitive Decline Aid is a mobile application designed to make cognitive training simple, engaging, and accessible for older adults. With 6.9 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer’s Disease—a number that continues to rise—early prevention is more important than ever. Our app provides daily brain exercises focused on memory, attention, and processing speed, helping users stay mentally strong and potentially reduce their risk of cognitive decline. What also sets our app apart is its large, clearly readable interface specifically designed with elderly users in mind — ensuring comfort, ease of use, and confidence with every tap.

Findings
During testing, younger participants quickly understood how to navigate the app, while some elderly participants initially struggled with the navigation bar. However, after one or two guided attempts, all elderly users were able to use it successfully. Only one older participant had difficulty adjusting the notification timing due to unfamiliarity with the scrolling time picker.
Evaluation Results
We conducted an evaluation of our app with the purpose of assessing its usability and effectiveness in supporting elderly users with daily cognitive training. Our goal was to understand how well the app met the needs of its intended audience and to identify both design strengths and areas for improvement.
Our Main Takeaways
The evaluation highlighted that elderly users may be less familiar with mobile features that younger users find intuitive. This reinforces the importance of a clear, accessible design. Our use of large text and high-contrast colors was well received, but there's still room to improve—such as offering an optional app tutorial and giving users the ability to further increase font size.
